Stormy Sunday at Kappad

On a storm-laden evening, I found myself tracing the footsteps of history on the remarkable Kappad Beach. This isn’t just any beach – it’s a living testament to a momentous event from over half a millennium ago. Here, Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, along with his crew of courageous adventurers, first set foot on India.

The spirit of that exploration still whispers in the violent winds that swept across Kappad Beach last evening, a reminder of how their voyage forever altered the course of human history.

More importantly I couldn’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu as I observed the horizon fill up with ominous clouds. It reminded me of the striking scenes from the ‘Uyire’ song, shot a stone’s throw away at Bekal Fort. This cinematic ambiance was a photographer’s dream.

Armed with a 85mm and a wide-angle 28mm lens, I eagerly shot the dramatic transformation of the landscape as the storm approached. However, the battle between art and nature 😂 took a swift turn as the rain started to pour and I had to rush back to the shore to secure the cameras and… me.

Here’s a visual narrative of the beach standing tall against the tempest.
